rainy day
It's a lovely, gloomy rainy day today. Perfect for finishing laundry and curling up with a book. Unfortunately Bogey (my lovely parrot) doesn't believe I should do any of these things alone, so he's been along for the ride. Something about the clothes dryer just puts him a foul mood. Luckily he does enjoying folding clothes and helps inspect along the way.
The current book of the moment is the latest Mary Kay Andrews novel called Fixer Upper. I haven't found a single book of hers that I haven't loved and this is no exception. All of her tid bits about junking and antiques are just fabulous. It really gets you in the mood for vintage.
Speaking of junking, my mom and I had lovely day visiting antique malls yesterday. My favorite find was at the Midway Flea Market/Antique Mall. Everything was on sale just for the weekend, with many items being marked down 20% (and most had pretty reasonable prices to begin with). I scored two complete 8 piece Federal Glass patio snack sets in original box for only about $14 a set. They appear to have never been used. I'm quite excited to throw a party just to use them. Similar items are selling online for at least twice what I paid. Don't you just love items from the 1950's?
Other scores included a yellow milk glass cereal bowl to complete a set of 3 that I use and love, a Jadeite bowl, and some candlesicks for my mom. It was a good day for bargains. We also hit up Marketplace Antiques...to find a whole lot of nothing. We're saving Artichoke Annies (by far the best antique mall I have ever shopped) for our next expedition.
